Portrait – Jake

Hi Matt,

I started again from scratch this week. 

I did this on a smooth gesso board which was much nicer than the canvas paper. But one problem I had is that when I tried to get dark values with the graphite it wouldn’t stick to the board. I tried blending it in, but when I did the underpainting graphite got mixed in some of the shadow areas evem after spray fixing. Would sandpaper help?

For the skin I didn’t have Winsor Orange so I used Cadmium Orange mixed with a bit of Winsor Red. Also is the skin too yellow-y? I used a touch of regular yellow ochre with white.
