Background

My father took this photo of my sister several years before I was born. He was dabbling in photography back then, so my siblings had a lot of professional-quality photos when they were kids. Since he moved to the US after I was born, my childhood was documented solely by instant cameras 🙁

On the Drawing

This was my first time drawing a side portrait, so it was a bit difficult getting the proportions right. I am also not completely happy with the expression. It looks neutral in the photo, but I think I made it a little bit sour hehehe. Otherwise, it was fun rendering the hair and going loose with scribbles for shading.

I also experimented with a 3B pencil on a table easel. Since I usually draw with a board resting on my lap, this setup was a different experience: it required a lighter, softer touch. Comparing the two, I prefer my original setup because it allows me to gauge the pencil pressure much better.
