How to Draw Hair + Capture Likeness

How to Draw Hair + Capture Likeness

In this livestream, we’re diving into portrait drawing with a focus on messy, expressive hair — something a lot of artists struggle with. I’ll show you practical techniques for drawing hair that feels natural and full of life, while also simplifying facial shapes to capture a solid likeness.

I’ll be working on Strathmore toned gray paper using a Prismacolor Col-Erase pencil, white charcoal, and a few soft brushes to blend and build form. If you’re working on improving your portrait drawing skills, especially hair and head structure, this session is packed with helpful tips.

📝 Grab your sketchbook and draw along — let’s level up your portraits together!

I’m going live Wednesday August 6 at 11 AM EST on YouTube.

Figure Drawing Livestream – Long Pose

Figure Drawing Livestream – Long Pose

In this live stream we tackle one pose. First, we break down the pose demonstrating multiple figure drawing techniques. We then dive into drawing the pose from scratch. Instead of using my trusty Prismacolor Col-Erase pencil, I worked with a found mechanical pencil. I do believe that the graphite was HB or B.

I worked on Strathmore 400 series 80 LBS paper. After the live stream I worked on the drawing for an hour and a half. If you like spending time on just one drawing, this lesson is for you.

Live Stream – Drawing The Figure

Live Stream – Drawing The Figure

This is a two hour live stream. In this lesson I draw the figure from scratch talking to multiple techniques along the way. If you are into long duration figure drawing grab a pencil and draw along with me. Make sure to post your drawing to our critique gallery so i can help you to improve faster.

For this live stream I drew with a Prismacolor Col-erase pencil on Strathmore 400 series paper.
