Underpainting – Jake

Hi Matt,

Second attempt at this, mostly still just having trouble knowing how much paint and solvents to use. I’m either going too thick or thin, loading the brush too much, not pre-mixing enough paint, not cleaning with OMS enough.

The paint on the chair is way too thick and the chair and blue seat in the back are too saturated but was worriee I was going to muddy everything up trying to fix it. Also I had a drawing for the face but the paint was too thick and covered it up. 

I finished the tutorial on painting gradations after this which helped immensely.

I was wondering what you’d recommend as practice for beginners? I’ve been premixing the full value scale before painting as you’ve mentioned.
