Seeing Shadow Shapes – drawing – cfox

Hi Matt,

It’s definitely been a while since I posted anything but with all the time I’m spending at home these days it seemed like a good time to pick up where I left off. I think it turned out pretty ok. Though I do feel like the jawline on the left side is off a bit. Or maybe it’s something else that’s off and it’s making it look as if it’s the jawline that’s off.

I’m curious, when I was watching the videos it seemed like you were able to identify placement issues in your drawing without actually measuring and comparing the reference to your drawing. I find I have to keep checking with either my pencil or using my scale divider (or is it a caliper?). How is it you’re able to see those issues without doing a direct comparison? And then how do you go about recognizing what you need to do to fix it?

Thanks in advance for your insight,

Chris Fox
