Hi Matt!
I’ve decided to push myself out of perpetual student mode and do something completely on my own. Challenging myself with a portrait in oils using only 4 colors, built up in layers and trying to keep a loose style, with late Rembrandt as inspiration. I’m painting mostly from my imagination but I also have a mirror set up so I can use myself as reference but I’m not necessarily going for a self portrait/perfect likeness. I’m having to make up the lighting in my head, just because of where my painting area is set up, and that’s causing me some trouble. I probably won’t work on it anymore until after I watch your critique.
