Magpie On the Branch

Magpie On the Branch -708ccb28

Hi Matt

Tried to keep in mind shadows = dark

My palette I’m using is: Titanium White, Unbleached Titanium White, Cobalt Blue, Cobalt Turquoise, and Raw Umber.

I’m having a hard time getting the sky a beautiful sky color. I know it’s all relative – it can be anything if it works in the painting, but It would be nice to have a beautiful fresh sky. I’m guessing the heaviness of my sky has to do partially with the palette. Also, I really use it for drawing, so as I finesse, it gets really opaque.

If I were to change my palette, but still keep it pretty limited, what would you suggest? Do you have any magic insights for me with painting the sky?

Again, I totally appreciate knitty gritty. I feel really close to good stuff but also really far away. I’m sure you know what I mean!

Many Thanks, Debs
