Lazy Raccoon Drawing – Mike

Hi Matt,

I know you commented on this one on my Instagram this week – I thought I’d submit it for a critique because I was trying something a little bit different.

A lot of my daily drawings are animal portraits without much of a background – maybe just some shading or a reverse gradation. This was an attempt at drawing an animal in an actual environment. I was pretty pleased with it, especially because I drew the perspective lines freehand (Not a big fan of perspective drawing!). I was also pleased with the way the window turned out.

As you can see, I removed a lot of clutter from the background.

I’d appreciate any thoughts you have on this one, especially with regard to incorporating a subject in an environment, and if you think it’s ok to “cheat” a bit with perspective.

Thanks!

Mike Gilbert
