this is a portrait of Joan Bennett based upon a 1937 drawing of her. I was drawn to her modern look and the wonderful lighting of her face. mmm. what can I say. I see many specific flaws but the most sweeping is that despite the wonderful lighting I did not develop a good sense of depth in the picture.
often in my drawings its the rendering that ruins it. I’ll have a good start with the basic shapes and reasonable proportions and then when I attempt to darken and develop it; I lose or fail to develop that sense of shape, texture and/or lighting.
…. I don’t know How much more you would like to know about me; this is one of my best drawings but I hope to develop the skills to do this much better.
