Imagination – Peter V

Hi Matt,

I had a conversation with Perpexity AI about drawing from imagination, it suggested it would provide me a prompt to use for inspiration then I should do the drawing without a reference. This is the first time I have really tried to draw a figure without a reference photo. I think it was a pretty good exercise that I will do again in the future.  Here’s the prompt:

“Woman in her late 30s, sitting, shown from mid‑torso up. Her body is turned slightly to the right, head turned back toward us in a three‑quarter view, eyes gently downcast. She has shoulder‑length wavy hair, parted slightly off‑center, with some hair falling onto the shadow side of her face. Light from a high left window creates a Rembrandt triangle on the right cheek and a clear shadow under the chin. She’s wearing a soft, slightly open robe with a loose collar that falls into a gentle V, showing a bit of cleavage but nothing explicit; the fabric folds softly at the shoulders and where it crosses the chest. The background is mostly dark, with just a hint of the window frame shape on the light side to explain the light source”

I struggled a bit with the lighting and the robe folds from imagination and wasn’t sure how much to simplify the figure vs. aim for realism so I’d love feedback on those areas.

Thanks,
Peter
