Correction

I was the one who posted the Lara entry last week. Lara’s the name of my sister hehe..

Background

We took this photo last year on my daughter’s 11th birthday. After an hour, she was able to balance on her skates, though it was still a struggle hehe. Reminds me to give it another try this year.

On the drawing

I’m happy I got her laughter right. For me, that’s 80 percent of the piece. For the rest, I was curious how the piece would look if I went completely loose with the shading. With all the erasures and adjustments I made afterwards, I’m not sure I found the experience satisfying. In the future, I’ll try the opposite approach: be methodical with each mark and shade I put on the drawing.

Details

  • Materials used: 10H for outline, 3B for shading
  • Paper: 10 x 7 inch sketchbook
  • Time taken: Around 4 hours: 1 hour to outline, 3 hours to render
  • Transfer method: By eye, 1×1 scale.
