Elephant-activist-initial sketch

Matt-in process of rendering this elephant on Stratmore 400 toned tan paper using black col-erase and bristle brush.  Want to send it to someone very concerned about wildlife and the treasures of wildlife and especially elephants.  I´m not sure how to best outline the ears trunk and tusks to keep that light nearly white value on the edges and how much to bring out that light background-just a few slanted marks for grass and a few tree limbs and dark leaves above head and to side of ears?  I’ve Been continuing to make the medium values on ears and medium to darker values more solid—so how much more should I go and then accentuate trunk, ears, forehead where “creases”are? If you know what I mean. Thanks in advance.
