Hi Matt, this is Caitlin
This is the first time I’ve ever tried to do a portrait in coloured pencils. I did an online course about using lots of colour in pencil portraits. The premise was that if the values are right then the colours can be bright without it looking ridiculous. Yet there is (hopefully) a vibrancy that wouldn’t be there in a portrait made with just shades of brown. So this piece is made with pink, red, purple, yellow, orange, green and blue.
The colours aren’t meant to be the same as the original, so my question is: is the end product believable in terms of value? Do you think the drawing “works”?
I would also like to know if my proportions are right/need improvement please.
Thanks very much
(Sorry if it’s hard to critique an exercise that you didn’t set, anything you can say will be helpful).
