Hi Matt, this is Caitlin.
This is a painting of Red Bluff, a rock formation near where I live. I went there recently and took my own reference pictures which I worked from for this piece.
Style-wise I am trying to learn how to get the “idea” or “feel” of the place across with out painting every single rock and crevice. I’m aiming for a nice looking picture over photo realism. How did I do?
I cropped it because I enjoy painting tall thin paintings lately, I think they’re interesting to look at. Do you think I chose a good place to crop the image?
The rocks are very orange in real life so I accentuated that in the painting.
All feedback is welcome, thank you
