Hi Matt. I’m submitting a traditional study and a progress shot of the digital painting.
The red drawing was a hair study, I wanted to get a pattern for the hair of the marble sculpture down in a linear way.
The digital painting is just past the block in stage. I need some guidance with the hair. I have the pattern from the study, but inventing the shading is something I’m having difficulty with. Since the patterns are so abstract, I feel any way I do it will look fine, but do you have any ideas for this?
I know that everything facing the left is light and everything facing the right is dark, everything facing straight towards us should be midtone. Things facing up should be cool and things facing down should be warm from the reflected light. I don’t have an exact reference for this and the abstract patterns get confusing sometimes.
