Painting A Scene With Multiple People – Anders Zorn – Bread Makers – Final Painting

This was our final session working on the Zorn painting. Obviously, there was no way to complete the painting in just one hour. However, I felt that sharing my full process would be a valuable experience for everyone, whether or not the painting was finished.

I was especially impressed with the students who committed to the process from start to finish. Brian completed his painting in watercolor, and I was truly blown away by the final result. Carole also stayed dedicated from the beginning, even using the critique gallery midway through to get feedback. She did an outstanding job.

I was thoroughly impressed with Carole’s finished painting — and she should be proud of it as well.

The key takeaway from this class was the importance of the process: creating a proper underdrawing with accurate values using a grid; carefully mixing value strings to match the reference before beginning the underpainting; and then mixing paint again before applying the final layer.

I want to thank all of the members who committed to these lessons. I know you learned a great deal — and I can clearly see the improvement in your work.
