I am taking the step-by-step drawing tutorial with the statues. The topic of lighting came up, and I wanted to share something. I recently took a photography course in which lighting was key. The professional photographer would use 2 light sources for staged photos indoors or use daylight through a window. He would sometimes use a weak single bulb light source for intimate photos. Fire light and candles gave interesting light. He hardly ever used the flash – it would make subjects appear flat. He hates fluorescent lights! Outdoors, he would avoid photographing during sunny days in direct light. He thought the best time to photograph was just after sunset or on a lightly cloudy day – which he said had the best “soft light”. It may be helpful to keep these things in mind when drawing from photos or taking your own for artwork.
