    Hi Matt,

I’ve been a member of your site for about two years and I feel I’m finally starting to develop a way of drawing which seems to work for me. This habit originated with a critique in which you suggested doing master studies of Remnbrant I think it was, showing how to to use line to liven up a an otherwise dull tonal drawing.

So typically when drawing I’ll lay it out with light line, then draw tonally for the next 70 percent or so, then stop looking at the reference and then stop looking at the reference and modify, usually including adding lines to create more gesture and to distinguish adjacent areas of similar value.

Now as I try to bridge the gap to painting I’m really missing that ability to use line (or at least I haven’t figured it out how to use it yet).

Am I looking at this issue right?
