If I were to practice life drawing on a daily basis – is 1 hour enough while I practice most of the other times looking at photos. Also could you tell me how to practice life drawing effectively, should I time myself or something like that?
Hi Jacque. I’d love to know Matt’s take on this. Here’s my take:
I try to get at least 1 life drawing done per week. I draw organic things such as eggs, the skull and flowers. You can get a lot done in 1 hour. I have found for me, traditional drawing works much faster than digital.
I have found that in life drawing it is necessary to work fast as the light changes quickly. The most important thing is to block in the line that separates the light from the dark as early as possible in the drawing. Life drawing is the art of taking snapshots of visuals in your memory and remembering them, so when your light changes, your visuals dont change.
