Hi, my name is Cairo, I was wondering if anyone had any advice of how to handle timed gesture drawings, like what should one try to accomplish is a 30 sec gesture, a 1 minute, a 2 minute, 5 minute, etc. How do you start? What is the hierarchy when approching a gesture drawing to insure you finish in time?

I can draw a figure fairly accurately when given time to do it at my own pace which isnt terrible slow. But when facing a time limit my mind gets very concerned about the count down. I’ve read Mike Mattesi’s work and along with watching all the videos on drawing tutorials online on figure drawing, I know how to start poses that I can take my time with, but the shorter ones still make me nervous.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

    Hello Cairo,
The best advice I’ve seen to date on gesture drawing is the December 5th members podcast. Have you viewed it. There is also Matt’s YouTube video on how to handle ten minute gesture drawings.

    Listen to Monday night’s podcast.
