    Hi Matt,

Thank you for being part of your new podcast format last week. Don’t worry about a/ your glasses: they look fine and b/ the neatness of the environment: we are artists (at least you are) and its the content of the message that counts!! lool.
So I wanted to ask you since my primairy interest is about making portraits of people I find interesting, if there are ways to avoid copy rights without having to ask permission for using the reference? Sometimes it’s very hard to trace down the owners of the reference or to contact them (especially when they are not alive anymore).
It’s very hard to change the position or facial expressions of the subjects in such a way that it would be acceptable by the copywrite hunters and still keep them recognisable.

    Thanks, Jesse
