Post critique progress. Matt’s critique was spot on. 🙂

    Thanks a lot guys!

It means a lot to read your kind words. 🙂
During the last couple of months I’ve been loosing a lot of my self-confidence.

Another comparison before and after critique.

Thank you so much for your critique and thoughts on the loose painterly style Matt!

I spent about one more hour with a textured brush refining it but leaving it painterly. I love this technique. I feel like I can get super quick super loose results and get to any level of realism just by keeping refining it. But this one is done

I tweaked it for about an hour on Sunday night and now after the critique I tweaked it some more based on the feedback. “Keep the darks, dark. And the lights, light”
    Thanks Matt! 🙂

Just realized that I haven’t uploaded the progress shots in a while. Here’s the post apocalyptic robot child I did.

In the end I mainly fixed the pose (planted foot) and the shape and size of the head. And I dumped the helmet.

Wonderful fantasy illustration! Your ambition is really inspiring and you can truly see how all that hard work has payed off in your art. Well done 🙂

    Thanks Magnus!
I’m glad to hear that because I can’t really see my improvement myself yet.
Maybe I need to revisit some old stuff.

Yes, it’s always good to look at pieces you did a year ago or more – to see how your understanding of form, value, color etc and the “artistic tool kit” at your disposal has really grown 🙂

Finished this one last week. Liked it a lot then. Not so much anymore. Number one issues I have is that I mix sharpness in the background.

Here’s another before and after critique. I pumped up the color a bit. Let me know if you like it.
