    Hey Matt,

Wondering if you have any books on composition that you could recommend. I have one – “Picture This” by Molly Bang that’s been a good intro for me. I also came across another called “The visual story” by bruce block (which i’ve only seen, but not purchased – trying to find out if it is worth it).

    Thanks!

Marty, if you like reading older books there are a couple available as free downloads from archive .org. If you are more visual you may not like them.

“Composition” by Arthur Wesley Dow , has exercises and discussions on line, Notan, and colour and more.

“Pictorial Composition” by Henry Rankin Poore, this is a bit more theoretical and possibly outdated thinking, but may be of interest if you like to read stuff like this.

Hope the links work. If you look around that site you might find better scan copies. Both of these used to be available as print copies from Dover if you prefer paper books, although the Poore book is a bit different to the original.

At least these are a good price if you want to check them out.

    Cheers, Chris

    Hi Marty,

I gem of a book in “Mastering Composition” by Ian Roberts. The guy knows his stuff.
